Generosity

Giving financially to the church is something that we do of our own free will and in accordance with the Bible. We give cheerfully and generously because we love God, and we love His church and want others to discover the same truth that we have.

Frequently Asked Questions About Giving

Does God need our money?

The Bible clearly tells us that God does not need our money. God has limitless resources and made everything that exists with a Word. God doesn't need our stuff.

"For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine.
If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it."
Psalm 50:10-15

Why do we give?

Giving teaches us that we are always to put God first in our lives (see Deuteronomy 14:22-23). We are also told in the New Testament that the reason we are to give to the Church is to support those who preach the Gospel (see 1 Corinthians 9:13-14).

When should we give?

The Bible tells us to give to God first - before we start spending our money on other things.

"Honour God with everything you own; give him the first and the best." - Proverbs 3:9

What did Jesus say about giving?

Jesus spoke about the subject of money more than almost any other topic because he knew that the love of money was one of the most common struggles for people and that it was an enormous barrier to living for God.

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” - Luke 16:13

Jesus repeatedly warned his Disciples and the crowds he ministered to about getting their priorities straight and being more concerned about the Kingdom of Heaven and their eternal destiny than this life.

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.  Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.  Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. - Matthew 6:19-21

Jesus also taught much about the importance of giving, and that we would receive in the same measure what we gave.

"Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” - Luke 6:38

Is giving the most important thing to God?

The scriptures tell us that God most desires that we show love towards others and seek to know Him above any sacrifices that we might make in service to God. Sacrifice, or giving to God, is less important than showing love and mercy to people. Giving must be done out of love, not duty.

"I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings." - Hosea 6:6

Jesus reaffirmed many times in his ministry that love and mercy, not sacrifice was what God desired most (see Matthew 9:13Luke 11:42, and Matthew 23:23 for but a few examples).
